Exhibit Description
“RESILIENCE” brings dimension and beauty to an Iran rarely seen by outsiders. The majority of work on view was created from memory after Rafat fled Iran with her family in 1979, eventually settling in Virginia. She vibrantly portrays 1960’s and 70’s Iranian village culture in bold colors showing women moving freely in nature or expressively centering women within portraiture.
